Tuesday morning begins the long-awaited road trip to Alaska. I'll be driving my car to Midvale, Idaho, where I will leave my car with my parents and continue on with my two friends in their car. We are giving ourselves about a week to make the trip, which I've heard can be completed in 5 days if you are putting in a lot of miles each day. However, neither myself, nor my friends Chelsea and Karin, want to be spending more than 10 hours a day in a car, so we want to take a bit more time with the trip.
I'm thinking that after we stop in Midvale we can continue on Interstate 85 through northern Oregon while following the Columbia River. My family and I often made this drive when I was a child, and I remember there being a number of waterfalls and scenic stops along the way. With any bit of luck, we will make to Portland by nightfall.
